Loneliness during the Holiday Season

The holiday season can be a particularly difficult time for those who are feeling lonely. With all the lights, decorations, and gatherings, it can be hard to feel like you truly belong. There are plenty of things you can do to make yourself feel a bit better and to make your holiday season a little brighter.

Talking to someone is always the best way to ease loneliness and remind yourself that you are not alone. If you don't have a friend or family to reach out to, I urge you to call the Samaritans.

The Samaritans are a non judgemental helpline you can call any time of the day, all year round. Calling the number above is free and won't appear on your phone record. You also don't need to be suicidal to call.

If you're able to, it can also be helpful to volunteer your time for a good cause and help others in need. This can be a great way to make the holiday season more meaningful and to remind yourself that you can make a positive difference in the world.

It can be beneficial to take part in holiday traditions that you enjoy. Whether it's decorating the house, baking cookies, or watching a holiday movie - doing something that you look forward to can help to make the season more enjoyable when spending time alone.

Take some time to practice self-care and to be kind to yourself. Make sure to get enough sleep and do some physical activities, if possible. And don't be afraid to seek out professional help if needed.

No matter how you choose to spend the holiday season, I hope you're able to enjoy it in your own way.
